Alloy 321 (UNS S32100) is a very good stability of stainless steel . At temperatures up to 800-1500 ° F (427-816 ° C), chromium carbide precipitation under conditions , can still maintain the ability to good resistance to intergranular corrosion of . Since the composition of added titanium , chromium carbide formation in the case of 321 alloy can still maintain stability . Alloy 347 is the addition of Ke and tantalum to maintain its stability

SUS321 Uniform corrosion
Alloy 321 nickel-chromium alloy with an unstable 304 generally similar to resist corrosion ability. In chromium carbide degree temperature range for a long time may affect the alloy 321 is heated in harsh corrosive media corrosion resistance.
In most environments , the corrosion resistance of 321 and 347 both alloys is the same ; however Alloy 321 in the annealed condition in a highly oxidizing environment corrosion resistance by less in the annealed alloy 347 . Therefore, the alloy 347 is superior in water environment and other low-temperature environment . Exposure to 800 ° F - 1500 ° F - at (427 ° C 816 ° C) temperature range that will make the overall corrosion resistance of the alloy 321 alloy is greatly inferior to 347 . Alloy 347 is mainly used in high temperature applications , high-temperature applications require materials with strong anti-allergy activity , lower temperature to prevent inter- granular corrosion.

SUS321 Intergranular corrosion
When unstable chrome-nickel steel is placed in a temperature of 800 ° F - 1500 ° F - at (427 ° C 816 ° C) environment or slowly cooled through this temperature range , chromium carbide at the grain boundaries precipitation. Placed certain corrosive media, these grain boundaries are eroded , it may weaken the effectiveness of the metal, may occur completely collapse .
If an organic medium or corrosive liquid, milk or other milk products or atmospheric conditions , even if there are a large number of carbide precipitates , rarely produce intergranular corrosion. When welding thin sheet, because staying at 800 ° F - 1500 ° F (427 ° C - 816 ° C) temperature range this time is very short , not prone to intergranular corrosion , so the level can be unstable competently . Carbide precipitates are detrimental to what extent depends on the alloy is exposed to 800 ° F - 1500 ° F (427 ° C - 816 ° C) temperature range of this duration and corrosive media . Although welding thick plate is heated long time, but due to the instability of the L level , the carbon content of 0.03 % or less , precipitation of carbides is not enough to cause harm to this level .
