Grades 321 is the basic austenitic 18/8 steel stabilised by Titanium (321) additions. These grades are used because they are not sensitive to intergranular corrosion after heating within the carbide precipitation range of 425-850°C.
Grade 321 is the grade of choice for applications in the temperature range of up to about 900°C, combining high strength, resistance to scaling and phase stability with resistance to subsequent aqueous corrosion.

The performance of 321 stainless steel plate and 304 stainless steel plate is very similar, all add to the titanium raw material, better resistance to grain boundary corrosion and high temperature strength. The addition of titanium makes an effective control of the chromium carbide formation.
321 stainless steel high temperature stress rupture properties and stress mechanical properties are superior to 304 stainless steel.Ti in 321 stainless steel exists as stable, but it is also hot strong steel . much better than the 316L stainless steel at high temperatures.321 has higher hot strength than 304L and so is the best choice if the requirement is resistance to an operating environment over about 500°C.
